This is a community based project.............

Doune takes carbon reduction seriously and has a number of activities that nurture
the environment. The Kilmadock Development Trust in conjunction with Going
Carbon Neutral Stirling
are working towards Carbon reduction plans for individuals and groups to encourage more awareness of carbon reduction. The local allotments group will be promoting local food and is working with Forth environment link a charity involved with environmental education and resources in the Central Scotland area.

Already residents and businesses reduce their energy demand by insulating their
walls, windows and roofs. A number of schemes are available to lower the cost of
insulation.

We recycle our waste through the different household containers supplied
by Stirling council and by the large community recycle metal containers in Moray
park.

A facility has been set up to Reuse a 2nd hand books in the Information centre.

Here are some good local examples of green activities:

  • There are a number of local people sharing a car to work

  • Deanston Distillery uses the hydro power of the river Teith to create their energy

  • The Braes of Doune wind farm uses wind power to create energy

  • A Community Allotments Group has been formed to encourage local food

  • production and hence reduce food miles

  • An informal network of green routes exist that encourage people to walk and cycle, keeping them active and also reducing car journeys.

  • The Doune Primary School has been awarded three green Eco flags
